What Is Memory Foam? 

Memory foam is probably best known by the majority of people as the substance that was used by the astronauts to protect them from the extreme g-forces occurring during the take-off of the space shuttle.

The memory foam in mattress toppers is made from polyurethane and other chemicals that add to its viscosity level, thereby increasing its density. This material is also referred to as viscoelastic polyurethane foam. Depending on the chemicals used and its overall density, it is firmer in cool temperatures and softer when warm. What's That Smell?
